Oceanographer: head of ocean safety and MRV at SeaO2 | Amsterdam or Leeuwarden, Netherlands
"At SeaO2 we facilitate net zero carbon. We use our patented technology to achieve large scale carbon dioxide removal (CDR) from the ocean using an electrochemical approach. By leveraging pH of the seawater, we remove CO2 indirectly from the atmosphere and battle ocean acidification. The removed carbon dioxide gas is then sequestrated. After our capture plant, the CO2-depleted seawater is returned to the ocean where it can absorb atmospheric CO2 again. We are setting up our 250 tCO2/yr pilot plant on the Dutch coast early 2024. We need a monitoring, reporting, verification (MRV) protocol in place to ensure ocean safety and research the impacts of our technology on downstream seawater on a large scale."

"Carbon Casting is introducing the world’s first and only carbon dioxide removal solution that is permanent, affordable, and immediately scalable."
Research Associate for the Project “PalMod Phase III” Examining the response of the ocean carbon storage and biogeochemical cycles to abrupt events during the last deglaciation | Hamburg, Germany | Deadline to apply: 28 May 2024
"The Project PalMod Phase III is a project between Universität Hamburg and several other German research institutes and universities, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Science (BMBF), to understand Earth system dynamics and variability during the last glacial cycle.
Model simulations in PalMod Phase II with cryosphere-ocean-atmosphere interactions in MPI-ESM have captured some features of the abrupt events of the last deglaciation (Heinrich events, Bølling-Allerød warming, Younger Dryas). Studies of marine sediments show that such abrupt events profoundly affect ocean biogeochemistry. Nevertheless, the cascades of changes in oceanic biogeochemistry have not yet been examined using comprehensive Earth system models with interactive carbon cycle. The planned work will address this knowledge gap. The project will focus on examining the response of the ocean carbon storage and biogeochemical cycles to abrupt events in MPI-ESM projections spanning the last deglaciation and future climate change scenarios with the goal to improve our quantitative understanding of the observed cascades of change."
Head of Business Development at Holy Grail Inc | Freemont, CA, USA or Remote

"Planetary Technologies’ vision is to protect and restore the ocean and climate for generations to come. We do this by enhancing the ocean’s natural ability to fight climate change through carbon dioxide removal and storage. Our team combines expertise in ocean science, metallurgy and geochemistry to safely and effectively scale up ocean-based CO2 management solutions. Working collaboratively with all of our stakeholders, we develop a cost effective and sustainable set of tools aimed at protecting and restoring our oceans and climate, ultimately doing carbon dioxide removal and storage at gigatonne scale."
Head / Director of CDR Sales at CO280 | Vancouver, Canada or Remote
"CO280 is a leading developer of carbon removal projects with more than 10 megatons per year of permanent CDR under development. We are addressing a critical supply gap in the carbon removal market by creating the world’s first permanent, verifiable, and affordable CDR solution at scale. The Carbon Removal XPRIZE Announces Their 20 Finalists | Carbon Removal Newsroom
"The XPRIZE remains one of the top stories in carbon removal and one of the largest funding sources for CDR start-ups. The Elon Musk-backed competition will award $50 million to the winning CDR startup in 2025 and send $10 million to three other runner-up teams.
Over 1000 teams worldwide have applied since the award was announced in 2021.
This month, XPRIZE released the detailed “Getting to Gigaton” report, which provided comprehensive data and analysis of the top 100 teams. A few weeks later, they announced the top 20 finalist teams competing for the grand prize.
The report and the selection of the top teams provide a state of play for the industry by showing what methodologies are most ready to grow to a gigaton scale, according to XPRIZE's expert CDR judges.
Today's show is with Nikki Batchelor, the Executive Director of XPRIZE Carbon Removal, and Mike Leitch, the Senior Technical Lead, about how they selected the top 20, what they found in this report, and what comes next for the competition."
Episode 3: 'Lean, Mean, Charring Machine' | Grounded: A Climate Startup Journey
"It’s episode three, and Tom has begun his search for a machine to make his biochar. But he soon learns that this particular shopping trip is going to be a lot more complicated (and potentially expensive) than he expected. Along the way, he meets a founder who’s been down this road before, encounters the messy world of ‘standards’, and gets lost in an extended baking metaphor that leaves him slightly peckish. Will he find a machine that will work for his pilot and allow him to mint credits? Or is it time to get out of the kitchen?
Grounded is the story of a startup that wants to remove carbon from the atmosphere and help reshape our relationship with the planet. Ideally without burning to the ground in the process."
A Mammoth Task: Sucking Carbon out of the Air—Robert Höglund of MilkyWire and Ben Cooke of The Times talk CDR | Wicked Problem
"In this episode of Wicked Problems - Climate Tech Conversations, we return to one of our favourite topics: carbon dioxide removals (CDR) and its potential role in combating climate change. Our host, Richard Delevan, interviews two distinguished guests: Ben Cooke, Earth Editor at The Times, and Robert Höglund, manager of the MilkyWire Climate Transformation Fund, founder of CDR.fyi and writer of Marginal Carbon. Together, they provide unique perspectives on the challenges, innovations, and future of carbon removal technologies."
Dr. Antonius Gagern—Executive Director of the Carbon to Sea Initiative | Climate Positive
"In this episode, Hilary Langer met with Dr. Antonius Gagern, the Executive Director of the Carbon to Sea Initiative, for a lively conservation about a hot topic: the promises and sensitivities of tinkering with the ocean’s chemistry to enable it to store more carbon dioxide. Initial research on ocean alkalinity enhancement supports its potential as a significant means of capturing carbon. Carbon to Sea is a $50M non-profit effort that brings together leading funders and researchers to explore ocean alkalinity enhancement. The area is gaining increasing attention and traction, as evidenced by the White House’s launch of a “Fast-Track Action Committee” on Marine Carbon Dioxide Removal. Within the past year, the U.S. federal government has put out about $100 million in grants to accelerate research in the area, including $23.4M from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Researchers and funders are balancing the urgency of action with the need to ensure that any intervention is a clear win for the oceans they seek to protect."
